Stout down!

I’d like to provide an update to my FedEx damaged shipment.  You may recall in my last post that I sent a 6 shipper to California and when my experienced and trusted trading partner sent the full 6 shipper back, it made it all the way from California to North Carolina when it was identifiedContinue reading “Stout down!”

The Stoutwhisperer Sunday Stout Selection is actually a Porter! Enjoying a 2018 vintage of @ballastpointbrewing High West Barrel Aged Victory At Sea! An Imperial Porter with coffee and vanilla flavors and aged in @drinkhighwest High West’s bourbon & rye whiskey barrels! A smooth sipper that is vanilla on the nose, vanilla and hints of coffee on the tongue, and barrel notes of rye and bourbon alternate to really make the swallow a memorable one! A fantastic dark nectar which pairs beautifully with the $1M @tst7v7 soccer match that I’m watching!
The Stoutwhisperer Saturday Stout Selection is the 2021 vintage of @burialbeer Houtenhammer! From the words of Burial, “The coalescence of almost 9 years since we first made beer. An indelible etching on the tomb of our relics, and a reminder of the pathway we trudged along to stand where we now do. The tale of this massive earthen tool has carried us into Christmas with each passing turn around the sun. And this is our strongest beer we have ever made, just touching against the legal limits. Made of aged stock that reached over 16.2% ABV and was blended down for legality purposes, this blended Imperial Stout was forged of 65% Imperial Stout aged in fresh Willets bourbon barrels for six months and then racked into new Willets bourbon barrels for an additional six months, 25% Imperial Stout aged in Willets for almost 2 years, and 10% of young imperial stout base used merely to bring the alcohol back to legal limits. Welcome to our 2021 Cuvee. A hand-carved rock of ice melded with double oaked Woodford, accompanied by a slice of bourbon chess pie with caramel sauce, and a chocolate ganache with rum raisin.”
Memorial Day Sunday! @epl English Premier League soccer final match day! @nuwomenslacrosse NCAA Champions! @indianapolismotorspeedway Indy 500! @nusbcats softball Super Regionals! @nascar Coca-Cola 500! What a day of sports! Enjoying a @greatdividebrew Peanut Butter Yeti glued to the television! Wonderful peanut flavor notes on the nose with the traditional Yeti hoppy Stout flavor on the swallow. Big fan of the Stovepipe can!
This week Mrs. Stoutwhisperer and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary! Enjoying a 2020 vintage of @gooseisland Bourbon County Brand Anniversary Stout to celebrate and commemorate this special day! This Anniversary Stout is aged for two years in 12 year @wellerbourbon Bourbon Barrels! The two years have been kind to this Stout! No adjuncts….just a smooth Weller bourbon barrel aged BCBS! Love the simplicity of it! 36 years with me is nowhere as smooth as this Stout so I’m so fortunate that I have such a Stoutstanding wife and mother to our four children! Here’s to 36 more!
Sunday’s Stoutwhisperer Stout Selection is the 2022 vintage of @cigarcitybrewing Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout! A 16oz can filled with the sweet and heat that I enjoy! The sip brings the sweet of cinnamon and vanilla to the nose and tongue and the devilish heat of the Chile peppers make their entrance on the swallow. The heat decides to linger for a while….until the next sip tempts me and we repeat the sweet and heat dance again and again until the final sip which leaves me wanting for more! The mark of an excellent Stout!
Haven’t enjoyed a nectar from @horusagedales recently so when the Third Dose bird tried to fly from the Stoutcellar, I grabbed it! This 2022 vintage is an Imperial Stout with Chocolate, Coffee, Hazelnuts, and Vanilla Bean added. Love the strong hazelnut aroma and flavor notes! Everything else takes a back seat but as it warms, the chocolate and coffee start to show up on the tongue. Tough to find the vanilla but it does finally show up on the swallow! Nice mouthfeel and carbonation make this a pastry stout to be sipped and savored! Another winner from the @horusagedales flock!
