Happy Birthday BOMB!

As I was peering into the Stout House (my beer fridge) to decide what I wanted to taste and review, this Christmas BOMB! seemed to call out to me.  I was in the mood for a spicy, thick Stout so it was a perfect match.  Little did I know that I was celebrating both MothersContinue reading “Happy Birthday BOMB!”

Sunday’s Stoutwhisperer Stout Sellar Selection is the 2022 vintage of @gooseisland Bourbon County Sir Isaac’s Stout! I’m a big fan of the fig cookie that shall not be named, so I was looking forward to this! This is all about the fig! I don’t get much of the graham cracker but the fig notes take me to the cookie! The label mentions dried fruit, brown sugar, honey and lime zest, but the taste on the tongue is fig! Really enjoying this variant while relaxing on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Cheers!
Sunday’s Stoutwhisperer Stout Selection is a 2016 vintage of @prairieales Branson Jamboree! This is an Imperial Stout aged in Oak Barrels and is a blend of Evan Williams 10-year, Buffalo Trace, Madiera, and brandy barrels. It was released in February of 2016! I must admit my Stout bar was set pretty low for this one…. not sure what I would find under the cap. What I found is a delightful dark elixir with notes of oak, chocolate, cherry and dark fruit! It’s probably past it’s peak since it’s over seven years old, but it’s surprisingly tasty! That’s what I love about Stouts! Can’t imagine what a 7 year old IPA would taste like!
Anyone remember this collaboration? A circa 2016 treat from @westbrookbrewingco and @eviltwinbrewing - Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break! In 2023, I still taste some heat from the peppers, some almond notes on the nose, and some sweetness from the cinnamon and vanilla on the tongue. Clearly not to be aged but still enjoyable! If you still have one, drink it!
Today’s Sunday Stout Selection had me reaching deep into the Stoutwhisperer Stout Cellar! These 8oz babies were hiding behind some 16oz cans but I found them! Love these @forgottenroadales Alpha 4 Stouts! An Imperial Stout with @savageroasterscoffee and @beyersmaplefarm maple syrup! The sweet from the maple syrup, the bitter coffee notes, and the base Imperial Stout all combine to create a dark liquid that makes me want more than an 8oz can! Really appreciate the creativity from @forgottenroadales both in their Stouts and in their packaging! Just proves that good….no, great things can come in small packages!
Sipping on a 2018 vintage of @founder’s brewing Canadian Breakfast Stout aka CBS! One of the rare beverages where the glassware is older than the liquid! Check out the horse! The 2018 vintage still brings the maple and coffee notes and makes this a very tasty and enjoyable nectar! CBS is an iconic Stout and belongs in the inaugural wing of the Stout Hall of Fame!
With apologies to @jodeemessina, this weekend’s theme is Head Carolina Tails California! Yesterday was a California Stout, today is a Carolina Stout! The Stoutwhisperer’s Sunday Stout Selection is the 2023 release of North Carolina’s @incendiarybrew The Interception of Entropy! A blend of Imperial Stouts aged for 2 years in @blantons_bourbon and @wellerbourbon barrels then conditioned on @counterculturecoffee whole beans! Love the mouthfeel and the sweetness that the bourbon barrel aging brings…the coffee notes show up as it warms. I wouldn’t call this a Coffee Stout, but rather a BBA Stout with coffee notes….and there definitely is a difference! Incendiary’s treatment of this Stout highlights how coffee doesn’t need to be the focus to make a taste impact!
